Higher efficiency at current production levels
Steam capacity can follow the actual requirement instead of keeping a larger installation running at low load.
Stergiou Family is a well-established Greek producer of bakery products and snacks. What started as a family business in 1958 has developed into a major food producer supplying fresh products throughout Greece. To support its continued growth, the company invested in a new production facility and required a reliable and efficient steam system for its production processes.
For the steam installation, Stergiou Family worked together with Clayton and its Greek partner Meleccon, which represents and technically supports Clayton steam systems in Greece. Meleccon combines local engineering and service capabilities with Clayton steam technology, allowing the complete project to be supported locally from engineering through commissioning and after-sales service.
As a greenfield project, the installation offered the opportunity to design the steam system around both the current production requirements and Stergiou Family’s future plans.
The new plant was designed around two production lines. However, only the first production line would initially be in operation. The second line would be added at a later stage.
Installing one large steam generator sized for the final capacity would therefore have meant operating an oversized steam system during the first phase of production. Instead, Clayton and Meleccon proposed a more flexible approach: two smaller steam generators operating as a modular steam system.
The installation consists of two Clayton CSM 75 Steam Master units combined with one common hotwell.
This configuration allows Stergiou Family to match steam production much more closely to the development of the factory.
During the first phase, one CSM 75 can cover the requirements of the first production line. When the second production line becomes operational and steam demand increases, the second Steam Master can be brought into operation.
The choice for two CSM 75 units instead of one larger steam generator was an important part of the project design.
It provides Stergiou Family with several advantages:
Steam capacity can follow the actual requirement instead of keeping a larger installation running at low load.
Additional steam capacity is already installed and ready when the second production line comes into operation.
The two-unit configuration gives the plant greater flexibility as steam demand changes.
The Steam Masters can react quickly when production requires steam.
One or both generators can operate depending on the required steam load.
The CSM series provides substantial steam capacity from a relatively small footprint.
This modular approach prevents the steam plant from being unnecessarily oversized during the first years of operation, while ensuring that sufficient capacity is already available for Stergiou Family’s future expansion.
For Stergiou Family, the result is a steam system that can grow together with production.
Rather than installing all required steam capacity in one large unit, the two Clayton CSM 75 Steam Masters allow steam generation to follow the factory step by step: one production line, one corresponding steam load today — with the additional capacity already available for tomorrow.
It is a practical example of how correctly sizing and configuring a steam installation can help combine energy efficiency, flexibility and future production capacity in one system.
