Historical foundation: a family business since 1695

The marriage between Petrus de Kuyper and Anna Custers in 1695 marked the official beginning of the De Kuyper family business. They started a cooperage in Horst, the Netherlands, where Petrus de Kuyper crafted wooden barrels to transport jenever. The current managing director, Remy de Kuyper, now represents the 11th generation and continues the family legacy.

In 1995, De Kuyper acquired Erven Warnink BV in Middelharnis. To produce advocaat and liqueurs, De Kuyper required steam. Since 2001, Royal De Kuyper has been using Clayton steam for various production processes such as cooking, pasteurization, and sterilization. This takes place only during the day; at night, no steam is used, and the Clayton system goes into cold standby mode, preventing unnecessary energy consumption compared to a traditional steam boiler.

Technology in service of sustainability

Due to further growth, De Kuyper decided in 2022 to invest in the latest type of steam generator from Clayton — both to meet the increased steam demand and to support sustainability efforts. The objective was to reduce gas, water, and electricity consumption while achieving the lowest possible flue gas emissions. De Kuyper invested in a SEOG-100-1-LN-FGR steam generator. This model is equipped with an economiser, a low-emission burner, and flue gas recirculation. The combustion efficiency of 96% was measured by the independent body SCIOS, and thanks to flue gas recirculation, NOx emissions are low. The steam installation has a capacity of 1000 kW and produces around 1500 kg/h of steam at 7 bar, depending on the conditions. The burner is fully modulating with a 1:8 control ratio — a key advantage for De Kuyper given the highly variable nature of their production.

SMART INVESTMENT WITH PERFORMANCE AND CONTROL

De Kuyper is very satisfied with this new investment and received favorable advice for their subsidy application. Efficiency has improved, the machine operates very quietly, and they make smart use of the remote connection module. This allows employees to start and stop the steam installation remotely and monitor the process 24/7.

COMPACT SAFETY THROUGH CLAYTON TECHNOLOGY

Clayton steam generators are known for their compact design and light weight. Thanks to the efficient counterflow principle used in the heat exchanger and the fact that the water flows through a long steel tube in a spiral shape, a steam explosion is not possible.

Since its founding, De Kuyper Royal Distillers has grown into a global supplier of cocktail liqueurs, using handcrafted distillates, extracts, and natural botanicals. The company has received the international award for “Liqueur Producer of the Year” for the fourth consecutive year. De Kuyper also follows a structured sustainability management policy, with the main goal of becoming a climate-neutral company. The new Clayton steam generator brings De Kuyper one step closer to that goal.
