“Our boiler house was already 28 years old, so we decided to invest in a safer, more efficient and more energy-efficient steam installation. To assist us in this transition, we decided to call on the expertise of Spirax Sarco”, says Thomas Cooreman, project engineer at LBC Tank Terminals. The first step was an energy and safety audit of the entire steam installation, carried out by Spirax Sarco. Thanks to the close cooperation between LBC Tank Terminals and Spirax Sarco, specifications could be drawn up with attention to the most modern techniques and in accordance with the requirements of today's energy-conscious world.

A number of issues emerged from the audit, such as the need to modernize the entire boiler house, move the main heating units (being closer to the boiler house), implement condensate recovery and insulate the steam pipes and fittings. LBC entered into a partnership with Clayton for the renovation of the boiler house. Clayton provided the installation of two new steam generators, which are optimized for the variable demand of the steam system. A mobile rental boiler was used during the work to guarantee the continuity of the process. To ensure optimum water quality, LBC also entered into a water treatment contract with Clayton. In addition to the steam fittings, Spirax Sarco also supplied two Easiheat heating units, which are a complete and compact solution for heating water with steam in an accurate and energy-efficient manner. By placing it in the boiler house, the condensate can be immediately reused. Finally, the boiler house and the entire steam system were insulated where possible. Afterwards, the LBC employees were also trained by Spirax Sarco and Clayton to operate the new installation easily and safely.

Thomas looks back on the cooperation with Spirax Sarco and Clayton with a satisfied feeling: "The available space was quite tight, which made it quite a challenge to get the entire new installation in place. Thanks to good preparatory work, the result can be seen and does not give a narrow feeling when working in this room. The new installation not only looks beautiful, but also pays attention to the latest techniques and is maintenance-friendly. It is now up to us to start using it properly!" With the completely renewed installation, the water treatment contract with Clayton and well-trained crews under its belt, LBC is heading for a safer, more efficient and energy-efficient future!
